Painting ran parallel to my life. It has always been, a little, my means of expression. A language that suited me better than words.

Now, thinking back, I think it comes from my primary school teacher, with whom I was permanently at war, and who cut one of my drawings. He asked us to draw an apple tree in blossom in spring. And I always drew trees with roots as big as the branches. My drawing was put up the next day because it was one of the best. He always put up the best drawings. I come into the classroom and he had cut it. And he says to me: 'Christine, you don't draw what you can't see.'

Là, c'est bien net ou c'est un peu flou ? Non, c'est flou. C'est mieux comme ceci ? Oui. Ça se met bien ? Là, c'est mieux. Là, c'est encore mieux ? Oui.

Now, is it sharp or a bit blurred? No, it's blurred. Is it better like this? Yes. Does it sit right? That's better. Is it even better now? Yes.

Pareil. OK. Et maintenant, un, deux ou pareil ? Deux. Deux. Et là, un…

The black dots, do you see them better in position one, better in position two, or the same? Two. All right. And now, better one, better two, or the same? The same. OK. And now, one, two or the same? Two. Two. And now, one…

L'arbre tel qu'on le voit n'existe pas. Il ne tient pas. Au moindre coup de vent, il tombe.

The tree as we see it does not exist. It cannot stand. At the slightest gust of wind, it falls.

Excusez-moi, madame. Entrez. Salut, Francis. Salut, Henri. Comment vas ? Très bien, et toi ? Salut, ça va bien.

Excuse me, madam. Come in. Hi, Francis. Hi, Henri. How are you? Very well, and you? Hi, I'm fine.

Even if we see it whole, a part is missing. And it is the same for people.

2:05

Très intéressant. Bonjour madame, excusez-moi deux secondes.

Very interesting. Good morning, madam, excuse me for two seconds.

For everything that is alive. There is always one side, even if you walk around it, you forget a part, which is often, in fact, at the origin of things.

2:18

OK. Pas de problème, Henri. Francis, je te laisse travailler. Merci.

OK. No problem, Henri. Francis, I'll let you work. Thank you.

2:21

Et qu'on n'a souvent pas envie de voir ou qu'on ne cherche pas à voir. Je trouve ça dommage.

And which we often do not want to see, or do not try to see. I find that a pity.

2:27

Et avec ceci, est-ce que c'est plus net ?

And with this, is it sharper?

The eye is an organ, as you know, that makes vision possible, and it is made up of several parts. So it filters the light rays, in particular at the lens, which then focuses the rays at the back of the eye, where there is a nervous structure called the retina.

There, don't move, I am going to place these different rings in front of your eye. Look at them carefully. There, that's perfect.

The work I contribute to in this laboratory, which is a laboratory of retinal pathophysiology, should help us understand how the retina works, and in particular why the retina is affected in diseases that impair vision.

I see everything in images. Directing my gaze as I wish, that is what matters. I am the one directing the gaze. With this or that lighting, and so on. It is light, dark. That is what is fascinating. Sculpting the image, directing the gaze.

3:37

The eye can be taken as a camera, and the retina is the film on which the impact will fall. And the picture that is transmitted at that moment is exactly as in a camera.
